Stampin' Up Simple Stems Birthday Card

I wanted to share this birthday card I made for my aunt. She is a pretty special person in my life, I am actually named after her.  :)  So I wanted to make her a pretty great  birthday card. I like how this card turned out, but the process wasn't easy!  You know those days that you stamp wrong, the glue gets on your card, the original thought you had, didn't work at all....well that's how it was for me! But in the end I was happy. We both share a love of gardening and flowers, so I knew that would be my focus. The actual card  sketch idea I got from Creating with Connie and Mary's sketch challenge # CCMC 295.

So here's the card I came up with.

It turned out to be a simple, yet elegant looking card I thought. I struggled with how to make the flower 'pop' and yet not look over done.

The flower is stamped in Wisteria Wonder, and then I used the Blender Pen with Elegant Eggplant Ink to add depth around the edges of the flower. I experimented with a couple different ideas for the center of the flower. I first tried embossing it with Silver Embossing powder, that was just ok. Then I tried putting the Silver Glitter in the center, well that looked like a 2 year-old got a hold of it! I tried Rhinestones and that looked like....welll not good!! So finally, what I ended up doing was using the Dazzling Details and using the tip of my Paper Piercing Tool to apply 'little' bits of the Silver Glitter. I don't know how well you can see that here. It turned out pretty but not over-bearing!!  wahoo!!

Here's a close up view. What do you think?

And I simply just stamped the inside to finish it off.

I hope she likes it!!  :)

  7. I love how the look of the darker color along the edges of the flowers adds so much depth to the card. A different (and definitely easier) way than "fussy" cutting! Thanks for joining us in the sketch challenge this week at at Create with Connie and Mary!
